Cheltenham Racecourse is a natural amphitheatre which explains why the Festival atmosphere is so special. The undulations of the course, the fences and hurdles and the legendary Cheltenham hill combine to really test the true strength of any horse and jockey.

Both the Old Course and the New Course are left handed ovals of approximately 1.5 miles in circumference and there are special chutes for the starts of races run over 2.5 miles and 4 miles. The courses undulate, with an uphill run-in from the last fence of 237 yards.

The Old Course is used for the first two days of the festival and the New Course is then used for Days 3 and 4. There is also a Cross Country Steeplechase Course that is also used during the Cheltenham Festival.

Cheltenham is located approximately 100 miles from London, 48 miles from Birmingham, 40 miles from Bristol and 9 miles from Gloucester Cheltenham Racecourse is just a few minutes from Cheltenham town centre and a short distance from the M5 (Junctions 9,10 or 11). The nearest train station to Cheltenham Racecourse is Cheltenham Spa and there are race day bus links that run from the Station to Cheltenham Racecourse. For train information call 08457 484950.
